GitHub vs Lightning AI
GitHub and Lightning AI are complementary, not interchangeable.
Lightning AI gives you a cloud workspace where you can build, run, and share AI apps, agents, notebooks, and services. Your Studio does save files, so it works well as an active development environment.
GitHub is still the right tool for source control. It gives you version history, branches, pull requests, code review, collaboration workflows, and an external backup of your project.
In practice, many teams use Lightning AI to develop and run their projects, and GitHub to manage the codebase over time.
A simple way to think about it is:
- Use Lightning AI to build, test, run, and deploy.
- Use GitHub to track changes, collaborate with teammates, and roll back when needed.
If you are working on anything important or shared, we recommend connecting your Studio to a git repository and pushing your code to GitHub regularly.
